Seller Tip: Show Off Storage Space Posted: 01 Dec 2010 02:00 AM PST When you think of features that can really sell a home, your mind may run through a list of basics (more than one bathroom, garage) or things that evoke luxury (top-of-the-line appliances, home theater), but there is one thing that everyone looks for…and that is storage space. Americans in general have increased the amount of belongings that have (and transport with each move), so people want to know that if they buy a home it can accommodate what they have with room to spare for more. A hopeful buyer's view of the storage space in your home really depends on how you present it. As one expert told The Washington Post, "Having an armoire doesn't suggest there are too few closets…unless it is jammed tight." If you are planning to sell Maryland real estate, you will want to make sure prospective buyers are aware of storage space. This may mean thinning closets and putting some of your belongings into paid storage in order to give people get a feel for the just how much space they'd have to bring in their own stuff. And don't forget that people who are shopping for a home look everywhere. It is not enough to just clear the closets. You also need to make sure that the cabinets in the kitchen and under the bathroom sink are not cluttered. |
