Subsidence in the Houston Area

Ten years of GPS data reveals that an area northwest of Houston is subsiding by up to about 2 inches per year. The subsidence is being blamed on ground water withdrawal.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration has a website named “Energy Kids” that features educational and fun activities that help kids learn about energy. The site has games, activities, history, calculators, glossary and much more. “Exploring Energy” is the theme of Earth Science Week – October 10th-16th, 2010.

North Dakota Potash by Solution Mining?

Potash is a name used for potassium compounds such as potassium chloride that can be mined and used to produce fertilizer. Some of these minerals as soluble and could be produced by solution mining. Subsurface deposits in the Williston Basin are being considered for solution mining.

Copper Prices are Rising – Copper Theft Rising With Them

Copper prices are approaching all time highs and as that happens thieves are becoming more interested in the metal. Nationwide theft reports of copper pipe, copper sheet and copper wire from construction sites are in the news.
