Ultrasound: Baby measuring small; do not know gender yet

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 11:47 AM PDT

So we went in for the ultrasound today and got some news we weren’t expecting. The baby/sac measured 15 weeks 1 day. I am suppose to be 17 weeks, 5 days. So that’s almost 3 weeks smaller than it should be.

The doctor said she was very concerned and is sending me to UAB for a more invasive ultrasound. They will be calling in the next few days with that appointment.

I asked and she said that this is happens in women in a 3rd trimester, not in the 2nd. She said it could be an infection or something wrong the baby, etc. She had them do a blood panel called a TORCH.

She did say that the baby, heartbeat and placenta all looked good.

I had an ultrasound around my 10th week and everything measured on target then. So we aren’t sure what is going on.

If you could all just pray for my baby I’d appreciate it. I’ll update you as soon as I know more. I’m holding on to the fact that the baby’s heartbeat was really strong.

My shopping trip with Mother In Law

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 11:00 AM PDT

My mother in law moved to town in June and hates to grocery shop. I do about 90% of all her shopping. She gives me a list at the beginning of the month and I buy the items off the list for her. She likes to get the bulk of her groceries at once so she can cook what she feels like during the month. It’s taking me some time to get used to her shopping habits and to stock up on things she needs the most.

Mother in law cooks for us 5 nights a week (she’s retired and it’s her way of showing us how much she loves us, she’s a great cook!) so we have to buy enough to feed 6 people. This should last her about 3 weeks. She is also into baking Amish bread for the holidays so we stocked up on baking goods too.

All of the items below are her groceries and they come from her monthly grocery budget.

Here’s our shopping trip from last Thursday.

Our first stop of the day was Target. (Sorry the picture is so dark.) It was $70 down to $35. We stocked up on Del Monte canned goods. It was 45c a can after the coupon. It’s 67c a can for generic veggies at Walmart right now. Ouch!

Next stop was Sam’s Club. Trash bags are rarely on sale so we got 150 bags for $8.98. It lasts almost 6 months! Our total was $130.

Next stop was Walmart. Now in hindsight, we should of gone to Aldi’s first. But I didn’t bring my cooler with me and I had to buy milk at Aldi’s. I would of saved her $6 if we had gone to Aldi’s first. It’s still taking me a while to get used to her shopping needs. She makes a lot of food from scratch. We spent $94.

Of course $21 of the $94 was for her coffee. She has to drink Folger’s Singles. It’s the only coffee that agrees with her stomach.

Our final stop was Aldi’s. We got 4 gallons of milk for $9.58.

Our total for the day was $268 for 3 weeks worth of groceries or $90 a week.

My obsession with reusable bags

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 10:30 AM PDT

Does anyone else hoard reusable shopping bags like I do? I have at least 40 of them that I have gotten for really cheap or free over the past couple of years. I love my reusable bags. I just wish they weren’t so bulky to carry around.

Sharing pictures of my stockpile

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 10:00 AM PDT

So I thought you might all be interested to see my stockpile…..

If you remember, I donated a good bit of my stockpile back in May when the post office was having their food drive. And since then I haven’t shopped much at all.

At the beginning of June, my mother in law moved to town. I sent a good chunk of my stockpile to her house (and I still do. She hates to shop so I do 90% of her shopping for her.). I also got pregnant with baby #3 in June. Morning sickness kept me from getting out much. And then it was 110 degrees in Alabama on top of that and my vehicle didn’t have air. (We have since gotten a different vehicle.) And then when I thought I was going to get back to bargain shopping on a regular basis my daughter came down with appendicitis and was hospitalized for 8 days and then on IV antibiotics for another 10 days after that. It doesn’t help at all when I live 20 miles from the stores either.

So that’s why my stockpile has suffered over the summer and it’s time to build it back up!

So now it’s time to fill the cabinets, pantry, fridge and freezer back up to capacity! Who’s with me?

Just click on a picture to see it bigger.

It’s time to Coupon to Disney again……

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 09:30 AM PDT

Where has the Disney fund been?

Well………. as soon as I found out that I was pregnant I knew our plans had changed. We have gone in May for the past 2 years but I don’t really want to take a 2 month old baby to Disney World when it’s hot and crowded. So we talked about it and decided to delay our trip.

Then Emily got sick and any extra money we had coming in got deferred to medical bills. But now we are ready to save, save, save!

We will be going to Disney World in November 2011. We are looking at going the week of November 14th. The crowd calendars calls for it to be one of the least crowded weeks (that will be a completely different experience!) and the weather won’t be as hot. The baby will be about 8 months old.

But we aren’t going to Disney alone. This trip we will be joined by my mother-in-law and my 17 year old nephew. We haven’t decided yet if we want to do adjoining rooms at Pop Century, a family suite at the All Stars or spring for a cabin at Ft. Wilderness. She will be paying for her portion of the trip by helping me Coupon to Disney.

So let’s get this ball rolling again…………..

$346.26 saved since June 3rd!

You can see all the previous deposits here.

Don’t forget that you can now showcase your own Disney funds via the Couponing to Disney message board! (See how to do it here.) You are more than welcome to link to your thread in the comments below!

Intelligender: Find out the sex of your baby at home?!?

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 09:00 AM PDT

Have you heard of the at home gender test called Intelligender? It’s a simple pee test that tells you as early as your 10th week if a boy or a girl is on the way. It retails for about $30 – $35 and you buy it on Amazon, at CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc.

When I found out that I was expecting #3, I contacted Intelligender and asked them if they would be willing to send me a test to try for myself. They kindly agreed and sent me a kit to try.

The test itself was very easy to use. You urinate into the collection cup and take a syringe full of urine and put it into the Intelligender test. The test itself is just a small collection cup with test crystals located in the bottom of it. You have to swirl the urine a few times and let the test sit for a few minutes before you get your results. A darker green color indicates a boy and a light yellow color indicates a girl.

I took the test and here is my results:

According to the Intelligender a boy is on the way. I’ll be updating the results of my ultrasound in just a few hours and we will see if the test was accurate or not. Either way it was a lot of fun to do.

If you are expecting and you are willing to spend the $30, this test is a lot of fun. Don’t rush out and buy baby clothes though. You never know…

A huge thanks to Intelligender for sending me a test to try. I was provided the test, but all opinions are my own.

My mother-in-law’s delicious Taco casserole recipe

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 07:30 AM PDT

Quite a few of my readers have asked for this so I thought I would share:

Taco Casserole Recipe

8 oz can of crescent rolls
8 oz of ground turkey or beef
3/4 cups of chopped green bell peppers
1/2 cups of chopped onions
1 3/4 cups (15 oz) of tomato sauce
6 oz can of red kidney beans, drained and mashed
1 package of taco seasoning mix
3/4 cups of shredded cheese

Preheat oven to 375F.

Spray skillet and saute meat, green peppers and onions until meat is brown and vegetables are tender.
Add tomato sauce, kidney sauce and taco seasoning. Mix.
Lower heat and simmer until heated thoroughly.

Spray 9×13 pan and layer the bottom with crescent rolls. Make sure you mash them together.
Bake the dough for 8 minutes.
Remove from oven and spread the meat mixture over crust and bake for 10 more minutes.
Add cheese and bake until cheese is melted.

Day 11 of No Dining Out October

Posted: 11 Oct 2010 04:58 AM PDT

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend at a restaurant(s) of their choice!

The rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

My progress:

No dining out for us yesterday. :)

How are you doing?

Contest: Am I having a boy or a girl?

Posted: 10 Oct 2010 01:55 PM PDT

Monday is my big ultrasound! I will be just shy of 18 weeks and hopefully we will be able to find out what this baby is. But to make it fun, I’ve done all the old wives tales I could find. I’m going to share my results with everyone and let you make a guess as to what the baby is.

One person who submits their guess will win a $5 Amazon.com gift card just for guessing and if that person got it right, I’ll double it to $10!

So let’s have some fun….

When I was expecting my first, I purchased the book Boy or Girl: 50 Fun Ways to Find Out. I went through and answered as many of the questions as I could (for the third time). It’s fun to see how my answers have varied from each pregnancy.

Stare into a mirror and if your eyes dilate it’s a boy
Mine tried to dilate but remained small.

Check your broken blood vessels under your lower eyelid, if there is a V in the left eye it’s a girl
Mine was in the left eye.

If your hair gets thinner and stringier with your pregnancy, it’s a girl.
Mine did.

Does the hair grow faster on your legs? If so, a boy is on the way.
My hair grows a lot slower. It’s so nice.

If your legs get larger during pregnancy, a boy is on the way.
My legs have remained the same.

If your fingernails grow faster, a boy is on the way.
My fingernails are growing a lot faster.

If your backside is bigger, a girl is on the way.
My backside is bigger….

If your face is getting larger, a girl is on the way.
My face is bigger….

If your feet are colder, a boy is on the way.
My feet are hotter than before.

If breathing is more difficult during pregnancy, a boy is on the way.
Breathing is more difficult this pregnancy.

If you sleep more than before, a girl is on the way.
Ever wonder why the blog gets slow… it’s because I’m snoozing!

If you sleep on your right side, a girl is on the way.
I favor my right side.

Do you eat the heel of the bread? If so a boy is on the way.
I love the heel of bread (but not loaf bread, that’s weird).

If you have to drink orange juice in the morning, a girl is on her way.
I do not drink OJ. It gives me indigestion.

If mom is happier since she got pregnant, a boy is on the way.
I am a whole lot grumpier than I was before I got pregnant. It’s like 24/7 PMS for me.

If you have any old wives tales you’d like me to do before the ultrasound? If so, let me know! As long as I have the means to do them, I’ll be thrilled to do it.

Here’s a belly picture:

Be sure to submit your guess by leaving a comment below. This giveaway will end when I reveal what the baby is!

What did $10 get you this week?

Posted: 10 Oct 2010 01:30 PM PDT

How far were you able to stretch a $10 bill this week? Were you able to get 10 items, 50 items, 100 items for $10? Did you score great deals at a yard sale or a thrift store? It doesn’t matter where you spent it, we just want to know how far you stretched it!

This brag comes from Loretta:

I bought 12 bags of candy for $30, used a $5 off $25 coupon and paid $25 out of pocket and received $30 UP rewards to use for future purchases.

I brought the candy home to my hubby who said LET’S GET MORE!

I got 12 more bags used another $5 off $25 coupon used $25 in Up Rewards and paid $.24 cents for those. Received another $30 in rewards.

Went BACK in and got the last FOUR bags which totaled $10. Used $9 in UP rewards and paid $.92 cents (I don't know why this was more tax), leaving me with $11 in up rewards!

I got TWO bags of Dum Dum suckers, FOUR bags of Skittles, TWO bags of Starburst, TWO bags of lifesavers, FIVE bags of caramels, TWO bags of Jolly Ranchers, THREE bags of Sour Patch, TWO bags of Bassett’s licorice and SIX bags of Tootsie Rolls. WOO HOO!
