Making Neodymium-Iron-Boron Magnets Cheaper and Greener

“Ames Laboratory scientists have come up with a new process to prepare neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets that has the potential to enable them to be produced economically in the United States. What's more, the Ames Laboratory process doesn't produce the environmentally unfriendly byproducts that result from traditional manufacturing methods.” Quoted from the AmesLab.gov rare earth element press release.

Connecticut Gets First Fueling Station for LNG and CNG

Enviro Express Inc. will open one of the first retail fueling stations in the eastern United States to sell LNG (liquefied natural gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas). The station is along busy route I-95 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

USGS has published: “Encounters of Aircraft with Volcanic Ash Clouds: A Compilation of Known Incidents, 1953–2009.” This publication contains information about reported encounters of aircraft with volcanic ash clouds from 1953 through 2009. It was compiled to document the nature and scope of risks to aviation from volcanic activity.
