Amazon.com: Leapfrog Alphabet Fridge Magnet set just $10!

Posted: 05 Dec 2010 12:57 PM PST

Amazon.com has the Leapfrog Fridge Alphabet set on sale for $10. This is a GREAT price for this toy!

What is so funny about Amazon is they tell you when you bought this toy. Apparently I bought it on June 12th, 2006. Which is my birthday so I am not sure why I was shopping for a gift for Emily on my birthday.

We love ours. She played with it like crazy before it was passed on to Jacob. By 2.5, both my kids new all their letters and the alphabet song thanks to this toy. Plus it’s fun for them to stand and play with it while Mommy is working in the kitchen. Jacob still plays with it and he’s almost 4!

Don’t forget you can sign up for Amazon Mom for FREE and get free 2 day shipping on ANY purchase. Plus see every Amazon deal I have posted here.

Walmart.com: Get paid to buy Herbal Essences or Venus Breeze gift sets!

Posted: 05 Dec 2010 11:45 AM PST

Here is an AMAZING way to get some free gifts for Christmas.

Walmart.com has a few gift sets that cost $9 but they come with a free subscription to Allure Magazine. But if you don’t care for Allure, you can get a $9.99 refund! Just mail in your receipt/packing slip and the card found inside the gift pack and this form within 30 days of purchase! It’s so easy. (I have done these refunds before and it’s hassle free!)

And the cards do not say one per household on them. So you might be able to do this more than once! There are conflicting opinions on this (even with the company itself). But it might not hurt to at least try for 2. I suggest doing separate transactions!

Here are the ones that you can get on Walmart.com:

Herbal Essence Gift Set – $9 shipped!

Venus Spa Breeze Gift Set – $9 shipped!

And since the rebate is for $9.99…………… you’ve already made a 99c profit buying this!

Plus you can go through Ebates and earn 2% cash back (that’s $0.18). And if you are a new member, you will get a $5 bonus on top of the cash back! Just sign up here and after logging in, search for the store in the search box and follow the link to the store's homepage and proceed with your order like normal. Your cash back will appear in your Ebates account. It’s like getting paid to shop!

(Thanks I Heart the Mart!)

Day 5 of No Dining Out December

Posted: 05 Dec 2010 04:52 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

The rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

My progress:

We went to Burger King yesterday so the kids could play. It was so cold! We spent $17 which was not good. But at least the kids got to burn off some energy.

How are you doing?

Disney World Training: How to eat allergy free at Disney!

Posted: 04 Dec 2010 06:00 PM PST

When you are a Mom it is so hard to take care of your children and make sure they have the proper nutrition, especially when they have food allergies.

You want to be able to go out and have fun, enjoy the day, and throw caution to the wind. As you know, with food allergies comes careful planning, and restrictions. On our most recent trip to Disney World I packed our Backpack full of Gluten free foods. We had our PB&J's, Gluten Free Pretzels, Juice Boxes, and Fruit Roll ups.

The hubby and I wanted a snack. So, we went into the Columbia Harbor House at the Magic Kingdom. I figured we could get the kids a sprite and some fruit. My husband spoke up and asked if they had a Gluten Free Menu. The Manager came out and told us that they had a Gluten free menu, a dedicated fryer to avoid contamination, and the best part…it was about the same price as the regular food. My kids all had Gluten free Chicken fingers and French fries while at Disney World! You don't realize how momentous this was because we very rarely ever go out to eat anymore! It is too hard to avoid Gluten, and most restaurants are not educated! This was not the case at Disney!

Here are some tips if you have food allergies and you are planning a trip to Disney!

Email specialdiets@disneyworld.com or call 407-824-5967 when planning your trip. Disney asks that you do so atleast 14 days in advance. Let them know your dietary restrictions and they will send you more info than you can imagine about where you can eat and how to make your trip as magical as possible!

If you are making Advanced Dining Reservations tell them of your restrictions while making each reservation. They will work with you and let you know the menu items they have available.

At every table-service restaurant, the server is made aware of your dietary need and the chef comes to your table to discuss food options. They let you know the possibilities of GF options from the menu, and then offered to make something totally different if nothing sounded good.

For buffet table-service restaurants, they will assist you by telling you what items are or are not Gluten free and help you make educated choices.

At a non-buffet restaurant, a separate server (or the chef himself) brings out the meal on its own tray, so there is no potential for cross-contamination with the meals for the rest of the family.

At counter-service restaurants, the manager must be notified and he will review GF options with you. Then he goes back and chooses one food-preparer to prepare the food and bring it to your table, again on its’ own tray. (**know that this takes longer than the preparation of normal food, so you may want to put in your GF food order first, and then order regular food for the rest of the family, so that GF tray has a head start).

I have to say that our food was at our table in 5 minutes at the Columbia Harbor House! We did go at an off time (3 PM) but we were served quickly and without feeling like we were putting them out!

Here is a list of the quick service and counter service locations that offer allergy free foods.

Another option to consider if you are going to be staying on property for a few days. Most of the Disney Hotels offer a fridge and a microwave in the room. There are grocery stores off property that you can go and stock up on supplies. We did this last year and had what we needed and saved a ton! It may not have been as "fun" but everybody was happy, healthy, and fed!

Disney is such a magical place and they do anything they can to make your stay more magical! Don't hesitate to ask about Gluten Free, Dairy Free or any other allergen free foods. Chances are they have them, and are happy to serve you.

Amanda writes at A Few Short Cuts & Growing Gluten Free.  She has 3 children, 2 of them have food allergies.  She share recipes, tips and tricks to help others deal with food allergies and eat well!
