CyanogenMod 6.1 RC5 Brings Lockscreen Gestures To The Motorola Droid

cm-lockscreen3CyanogenMod is a very popular custom ROM in the Android modding scene. The ROM is based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and is built completely from sources. The advantage of CyanogenMod (CM) ROM's are that it removes all the bloat ware from the phone and is generally based on the latest version of Android. Readers who want to know more about CyanogenMod ROMs can read this.

CM ROMs are available for a wide variety of handsets and include a lot of nifty new tricks. Now, the latest version of CM6.1 RC5 for the original Droid has added another new nifty feature – lock screen gestures. Lock screen gestures will allow users to directly start their favorite app or service right from the lock screen with the help of a gesture on the screen.

As of now, this new nifty feature is available only on the Motorola Droid. However, I am pretty sure this feature will find its way in many more CM builds for various other handsets.

Nokia X2 Firmware Updated To V4.90

Nokia_X2Another day, another new firmware released for a Nokia phone. This time it's the Nokia X2. The software update is numbered version 04.90 and aims at improving the performance and stability of the device.

The firmware update also improves the camera image quality and an improved messaging application. Along with this, the audio quality of the handsfree speaker of the device has also been improved.

The Nokia X2 features a 2.2-inch QVGA display and runs on Symbian S40. The back of the phone sports a 5MP camera along with a LED flash. X2 owners can update the firmware of the device using Nokia Software Updater (NSU).

Users are recommended to make a backup of their data before proceeding with the firmware update.

Nokia N87 Prototype Shows Up on eBay?

eBay is used to sell anything and everything, but it looks like someone has got their hands on a Nokia N87 prototype and is selling it on eBay for a bomb.

A German seller is selling a Nokia N00 N86 C Prototype with 12 megapixels camera, this is very much like the one the N87 was rumored to have. The price of the phone is set for $799.99, however, the seller is not the owner of the phone and found it in a bar, anyone?

Phone is barely used, no scratches or dings. Its a rare prototype, fully functional. You might be the only person with this phone for a while! Its makerd (sic) as Nokia N00, but checking the phone, I might say its the prototype of the unreleased N87. Phone was found in a bar, its unlocked and fully functional!

From the pictures of the phone on the site, it looks like it is a N87 prototype, so who is Nokia going to fire now? If you are interested in buying the phone or having a look at it, you can hit eBay.

Nokia 5250 Firmware Updated To V11.0.008

Nokia_5250Nokia has released yet another firmware update for one of its low-end S60v5 based handset – the Nokia 5250. The Nokia 5250 features a 2.8-inch screen with nHD (360×640) resolution. The handset packs a measly 51MB of internal memory and 128MB of RAM. The back of the phone sports a 2MP camera which is capable of recording QVGA videos at 30FPS.

The new firmware update for the handset is numbered v11.0.008 and aims at improving the general performance and stability of the device. Along with this, it also improves the Bluetooth performance when using a Bluetooth headset. The FM radio of the handset has also been improved with this firmware update.

Nokia 5250 owners can update their handset either via Nokia Software Updater (NSU) or via OTA (Over-The-Air).
