My T-Shirt Says Spike VGA Reveal is Resident Evil Posted: 26 Nov 2010 04:49 PM PST Those tricky ad-makers at Spike TV slipped the above image into a teaser for the upcoming Video Game Awards next month, immediately after mentioning the world premiere of one or more new titles at the event. Check out those silhouettes — familiar? You may have seen them before, on a licensed Resident Evil t-shirt. I know I have, because I own that shirt. Compare it to the photo below. Gamerzines first picked up on the image and the Resident Evil connection, and the game we could be hearing about is the rumored Resident Evil: Raccoon City, the multiplayer adaptation of the series lore that supposedly allows you to both walk and aim at the same time. We won’t know for sure until the VGAs air on Dec. 11, but the teaser is interesting. Also interesting is a QR code that also got sneaked into the spot in a single frame. It’s a kind of bar code you can run through bar code scanner apps for smart phones. If you have an iPhone, grab Red Laser from the App Store and use the screen grab below so you can see what it does — just don’t expect, you know, any sort of answers. Via Joystiq. |
Watch this Need for Speed Trailer, Get Free DLC Posted: 26 Nov 2010 02:23 PM PST EA has a deal for you — if a million people watch this trailer (or just one of you watches it 1 million times), then Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit will get some free downloadable content that everyone can have. Sound good to you? Watch the trailer below to do your part. The trailer has to hit 1 million views by Dec. 12 in order to gain EA’s favor and allow players to be showered in new NFS content. The DLC pack will feature three new downloadable cars — the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 650-4 Roadster, the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition, and the Bently Continental Supersports Convertible. Conduit 2 Trailer Makes Cryptic Statements Posted: 26 Nov 2010 01:42 PM PST Happy Thanksgiving, from Sega — here’s a new trailer from the upcoming release of Conduit 2 for the Wii. This new video doesn’t show off much in the way of gameplay, but it does have some cryptic narrating going on that gives you an idea of the spooky twists the story might be taking in the next installment of the series. Last we heard, Conduit 2 was delayed until after the New Year, after being originally scheduled to drop earlier this month. At least this trailer makes it seem like the wait might be worth it. |
Another Assassin’s Creed in 2011, Ubisoft Confirms Posted: 26 Nov 2010 12:23 PM PST Sick of Assassin’s Creed yet? According to Ubisoft’s sales marks, the answer is a resounding “no!” And that’s why the company has confirmed it will release another AC game next year. According to MCV, AC: Brotherhood has already topped 1 million sales, despite being only about a week old. That pushes the total sales for the whole AC franchise (which has games on the major consoles, plus spin-0ffs on the PSP, Nintendo DS and Apple’s iOS devices) up to 20 million units. So basically, yeah, Ubisoft wants to make another AC next year, especially since its stock tanked right before Brotherhood. Assassin’s Creed is the company’s financial saving grace at the moment, it seems. Ubisoft Yves Guillemot said something to cryptic that effect just before Brotherhood dropped, as well. And then, Ubisoft’s Chief of Marketing and Sales Geoffroy Sardin told MCV another AC title is due by late 2011:
There you have it — whether it be another short-sequel like Brotherhood, or the full-on Assassin’s Creed 3, isn’t quite clear yet, but it does sound like it’ll be a major console release and not a portable add-on like Bloodlines. This despite comments a few months ago from AC Associate Producer Jean-Francois Boivin stating he was worried oversaturating the market. Apparently, Ubisoft is fine with that. It seems players are, too. Via MCV. |
Ubisoft Toronto Working on Splinter Cell 6 Posted: 26 Nov 2010 11:24 AM PST Ubisoft Toronto Managing Director Jade Raymond has confirmed it: the studio is working on a new Splinter Cell title to follow up with last year’s Conviction. As Eurogamer points out, this is the first time Raymond has actually referred to the project as Splinter Cell 6, although she did say in May that the project retains the core team from Splinter Cell: Conviction. Raymond also said in a promo video that Ubisoft Toronto is looking to expand to at least 800 employees over the next decade. Another 83 people have been hired this year, and development on Splinter Cell 6 is already ongoing. The new Splinter Cell title is one of five AAA titles Raymond said she wants to make in Toronto simultaneously. If you’re looking for a job in video games, sounds like it might be a good time to move to Toronto. |
