Black Panthers Seen at Same Pennsylvania Poll as in 2008

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 03:51 PM PDT

Unlike in 2008 there do not appear to be any weapons involved. The New Black Panther has not been accused of voter intimidation.

Video embedded below.

"Fox 29 News ran into a New Black Panther Party member outside as the same Philadelphia polling place where voter intimidation was reported two years ago. He was handing out a sample ballot for the Democrats.
...
A check with Philadelphia election officials revealed no voter intimidation reports at the polling location related to the man.

But we were able to obtain one of the sample ballots the man was handing out to voters. It was a sample Democratic ticket with Joe Sestak, Dan Onorato, Bob Brady and Curtis Thomas on the ballot.

Republican Enthusiasm Gap Hits 19%

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 03:00 PM PDT

With the first polls closing in a few minutes, we will not have to wait much longer to see what sort of numbers this translates into.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/144152/Record-Midterm-Enthusiasm-Voters-Head-Polls.aspx

"These results are based on the USA Today/Gallup final 2010 pre-election poll, conducted Oct. 28-31.

The record level of overall enthusiasm is primarily the result of Republicans' heightened excitement -- 63% of Republicans (including Republican-leaning independents) say they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting. That not only greatly exceeds Democrats' expressed enthusiasm this year, but also is substantially higher than what Gallup has measured for either party's supporters on the eve of a midterm election.

The high level of Republican enthusiasm has led to the largest gap in enthusiasm by party of any recent midterm elections, 19 percentage points. The prior highs were nine points in favor of the Democrats in 2006, and nine points in favor of the Republicans in 1994.

The party with the advantage in enthusiasm has won the greater share of the national congressional vote, and gained seats in the House, each election year since Gallup began tracking voter enthusiasm in 1994.

The Printer Cartridge Mail Bombs Designed to Explode Mid-Flight

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 02:14 PM PDT

It now appears that the 'Printer Cartridge Mail Bombs' were designed to detonate while still on airborne on planes. That being the case, the strategy of hoping the terrorists are to stupid to properly detonate the bombs they smuggle on aircraft appears to have succeeded again. This strategy I fear is a losing one.

http://www.startribune.com/nation/106421978.html

"The mail bomb plot stretching from Yemen to Chicago may have been aimed at blowing up planes in flight and was only narrowly averted, officials said Sunday, acknowledging that one device almost slipped through Britain and another seized in Dubai was unwittingly flown on two passenger jets.

Senior U.S. officials met to develop a response to the Al-Qaida faction linked to the powerful explosives addressed to synagogues in Chicago.
...
Brennan said authorities are "looking at the potential that they would have been detonated en route to those synagogues aboard the aircraft as well as at the destinations. But at this point we, I think, would agree with the British that it looks as though they were designed to be detonated in flight," he said on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Obama Backtracks on Use of Word "Enemies" to Describe Republicans

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 01:16 PM PDT

This does confirm that Obama was indeed referring to Republicans when he was talking about 'Punishing Our Enemies'.

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE69929420101101

"President Barack Obama said on Monday he should not have used the word "enemies" to describe his political opponents as Republicans sought to make an issue of the comment a day before congressional elections.

Obama, in an interview with talk radio host Michael Baisden, said, "I probably should have used the word 'opponents' instead of enemies."

He was backtracking from a comment he made a week ago in an interview with Univision radio in which he sought to persuade Hispanics to vote for Democratic candidates instead of Republicans.

"Obama = Keynesian?" (People Need to Learn to Read More Carefully)

I doubt this is people thinking the sign holder had simply misspelled "Kenyan". So does that mean these are people who do not know what Keynesian means or did they just not read carefully enough?

Aerial Crowd Picture of Rally to Restore Sanity And/or Fear

Based on the new angle I think my original estimate of 200,000 to 300,000 should be revised to move the low end up. It appears the range of 250,000 to 300,000 is more probable.

Thousands gather to see comedians Jon Stewart ...

Here are two comparison between the Rally to Restore Sanity And/or Fear and Beck's Restoring Honor Rally. The first is a numerical comparison. The conclusion is quoted. The second shows the same concept in a picture.

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/so-how-much-sanity-was-there-in-d-c-yesterday

"Of course, we could have shortened this considerably: the Beck rally covered about 2.4 million square feet, while the Stewart/Colbert rally only about 1.6 million square feet. In other words, we know from that alone that the Stewart/Colbert rally was about six-tenths as big as the Beck rally."

Delaware TV Station "Forgets" to Air O'Donnell's (R) Infomercial Twice

Posted: 01 Nov 2010 05:27 PM PDT

How do you forget to run an ad twice? I am not sure it would have made much of a difference. Still...

Here is that infomercial.

Video embedded below.

We the People of the First State from Friends of Christine O'Donnell on Vimeo.

"O'Donnell turned to a public access television station, Delaware Channel 28. She told supporters at a Tea Party Express rally on Sunday in Wilmington to watch that night at 11:30. "Tell everyone to tune in," she said at the rally.

"1 minute until the premiere of our 30 minute feature. Tune in to meet all the heart warming people I've met on the campaign trail. Ch. 28," O'Donnell tweeted Sunday night.

But the ad never aired.

A few minutes later, O'Donnell tweeted: "Okay... this is NOT our show! Must be a programming mix up. We will get back to you..."

The source, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive campaign operations, said the station "forgot to air it."

Then on Monday morning, O'Donnell's campaign issued a press release saying the ad would air on Channel 28 at 10 a.m. The candidate tweeted: "The Inspiring TV show about Delawareans will air at 10 aam and 3 pm today on Channel 28. Please watch this before you vote."

And again, it did not air.

"This isn't our show either! We are told channel 28 'forgot' to air it...both times... even though we paid for the time slot last week," O'Donnell tweeted shortly after 10 a.m.

Gallup Has Republicans up 55% to 40% on The Generic Ballot

Posted: 01 Nov 2010 04:56 PM PDT

The 15 point lead Gallup finds for the Republicans is unprecedented going into the vote. We will see tomorrow how many seats that translates into.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/144125/Republicans-Appear-Poised-Win-Big-Tuesday.aspx

"The results are from Gallup's Oct. 28-31 survey of 1,539 likely voters. It finds 52% to 55% of likely voters preferring the Republican candidate and 40% to 42% for the Democratic candidate on the national generic ballot -- depending on turnout assumptions. Gallup's analysis of several indicators of voter turnout from the weekend poll suggests turnout will be slightly higher than in recent years, at 45%. This would give the Republicans a 55% to 40% lead on the generic ballot, with 5% undecided.
...
Gallup's historical model suggests that a party needs at least a two-point advantage in the national House vote to win a majority of the 435 seats. The Republicans' current likely voter margin suggests that this scenario is highly probable, making the question of interest this election not whether the GOP will win the majority, but by how much. Taking Gallup's final survey's margin of error into account, the historical model predicts that the Republicans could gain anywhere from 60 seats on up, with gains well beyond that possible.

It should be noted, however, that this year's 15-point gap in favor of the Republican candidates among likely voters is unprecedented in Gallup polling and could result in the largest Republican margin in House voting in several generations. This means that seat projections have moved into uncharted territory, in which past relationships between the national two-party vote and the number of seats won may not be maintained.

Additionally, efforts by state legislatures in recent years have attempted to insulate incumbent members of Congress from strong partisan tides such as are in force this year. Congressional district lines have been drawn to make them safe for specific parties, which may reduce the impact of national trends on election outcomes.

Attack Ads, Circa 1800

Posted: 01 Nov 2010 04:52 PM PDT

Negative attack ads have been around for a very long time. As bad as they may seem today, this may actually be a step in the right direction. That does not mean it would not be good to continue in that direction, but lets not kid ourselves into thinking politics was so cordial back in the day.
