| A Halo Movie Is Happening… But It Actually Is Not Posted: 22 Nov 2010 10:19 PM PST Last week, Frank O’Connor of Microsoft — otherwise known as Halo’s “development director” — spoke as part of a panel at the Future of Television East conference. Harold Goldberg of the New York Videogame Critics Circle reports he said these words while on the panel: “We want to have Halo on any screen we have access to.” After the panel, Goldberg says, a network executive came up and started talking about the piles of money he wanted to throw at Halo, and then when Kotaku’s man tried to ask him about the exchange, O’Connor just said this: “There will be a Halo movie.” And then Goldberg says they talked about a Halo TV series and– Wait, it turns out that none of this is really true. Folks were talking about this on the Bungie.org forums, and O’Connor interrupted and called bulls**t on it.
Hahahahahahaha. So that’s that, but, to be fair, Goldberg didn’t really imply that an Halo adaptations were “in the works”; he implied instead that Bungie would be open to doing them. Also, “Harold Goldberg” sounds like an old person name, so maybe he just can’t hear that well. Also, in his post about this, Goldberg thought the Museum of Humanity Halo 3 viral video was fan-made, so that tells you what that guy knows. One question, though, Frank: What’s going on with this? |
| Sony Ericsson CEO Says They Might Be Working on that PSPhone We Already Knew About Posted: 22 Nov 2010 09:48 PM PST So in all the ruckus caused by the PSP2 stuff, everybody forgot about the alleged Playstation Phone. Well, I didn’t forget about it, but I didn’t have any reason to talk about it because there hasn’t been any news about it in a while, and even if there were news it still wouldn’t be as big a deal as the PSP2. And Sony said that s**t, pictured above, is totally fake and not in any way real. But, yeah, we’ve got news. Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg (nice assonance) talked to The Wall Street Journal, and they, because they’re pretty good at their jobs, asked him about the alleged device. Nordberg came short of admitting that the thing exists, but he totally wants you to think it does. Here’s one quote: “There’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere.” Hahaha. Anyway, they also asked him why it is that, being Sony Ericsson and all, they had never made a gaming-oriented phone. And Nordberg came back with: “I haven’t dug into that history, but the future might be brighter.” I like this guy. I guess we should keep watching out for that Playstation Phone. |
| NBA Elite 11 Got the Axe Because It Sucked Ass Posted: 22 Nov 2010 07:18 PM PST You know the story. NBA Elite 11 was to be a complete revamp of the NBA Live franchise. The demo came out and everyone hated it. EA pulled Elite from the release schedule. EA cancelled it altogether. EA gave NBA Jam a full retail release on 360 and PS3 to apologize. All that, obviously, meant the game was bad enough that they didn’t want to ruin this new brand by actually releasing it. EA has now officially admitted that. Here are some quotes that came from the mouth of EA Sports Important Person Andrew Wilson when he spoke to IGN:
And that is that for NBA Elite 11. The countdown to NBA Elite 12 begins now. Man, Elite 12 is not nearly as catchy as Elite 11. Ugh. There’s another PR obstacle for you, EA: the battle of names next year will be NBA Elite 12 vs. NBA 2K12. Not gonna win that one. |

| Fable III Understone Quest Pack Review Posted: 22 Nov 2010 03:07 PM PST On the surface, there isn’t much int he way of content in Fable III’s Understone Quest Pack, which you can pick up from Xbox Live for 400 MS points starting tomorrow. There’s one new sidequest, a shooting gallery at the mercenary camp and the ability to replay the main quest’s encounter with Reaver at his house in Millfields. The new sidequest, The Voice, is just a bunch of combat on the way down to Understone, a small town under Bowerstone, and it isn’t particularly trying or entertaining, and its conclusion features one of Fable’s famous “your only options are to f**k everyone over or do some great thing for them” moral decisions. Sadly, Understone doesn’t offer much in the way of moneymaking opportunities, but it is nice to have a new place to fill with your children. The real meat of the pack, though, comes in the other new items. A shooting gallery and strictly combat scenario don’t sound like the most exciting thing to find in a game that generally succeeds on its charm alone, but these things work because they shake things up and, gasp, provide a challenge. I know what you’re thinking; “something that isn’t extremely easy in a Fable game? this is some trick of the devil!” But it’s true. The shooting gallery is at the mercenary camp, which has received a bit of an overhaul since you tore through early in the game. It plays not unlike the shooting range at Westcliff in Fable II, except this one has only one round instead of a few, and there are different types of targets worth varying amounts of points instead of just the bandits and civilians. It’s also more difficult to rack up points and achieve high scores, which is why I like it, even though I still haven’t managed to earn the grand prize. The last new bit is The Wheel of Misfortune, which is what Reaver used to determine what baddies you and Page would have to fight when you tried to crash his party. Now the house is abandoned, and it’s all yours, and you can use the wheel as much as you want to fight things. This is a great grinding tool, but that’s not why this is cool. This is cool, because the game keeps score this time around. The rules are simple: each enemy is worth a set amount, and every time you kill one, your score multiplier increases by one. BUT, and this is a big “but,” the multiplier resets if you get hit. This can be difficult, particularly when you encounter the Sand Furies, which will shoot you before you realize it has a gun. The Wheel becomes quite the addictive activity because, goddamn it, I want a higher score and that better gun. So I enjoyed this whole thing. If this pack were free, it would be great. For $5, it’s probably still a good time, but don’t expect it to extend your game experience too terribly much, although it will net you a pretty solid number of guild seals. Final Score: 75/100 |
| FileFront is Changing to GameFront Posted: 22 Nov 2010 01:49 PM PST Dear FileFront readers, Because of these changes, it just doesn’t feel right to call the site FileFront anymore. Files are still a core aspect of what we do, but we have outgrown the limitations of that brand. So…*drumroll*… I’m excited to announce that on November 30, FileFront will become GameFront! This is a very big step for us, and we’re excited to (finally) unveil our plans to everyone. Why GameFront? We decided on the name GameFront for a couple reasons. First, it’s simple, and it immediately communicates what we’re all about: gaming, without limitations. Secondly, we like how it dovetails nicely with our current brand. It feels like a natural evolution for us, and we’re excited to grow. What’s New in GameFront? In addition to the new (awesome) name, we’re also giving the site a fresh redesign, and adding some cool new features. Here’s a rundown of what to expect:
What’s on the Horizon, Post-GameFront?GameFront will be a solid upgrade for the site, but we’re definitely not finished. We need to revamp our “Network Sites,” and bring them out of the 1990s. We need to make user accounts better. We have ideas to improve overall file navigation, and user file management. We have a ton of ideas for how to make the site awesome, and we’ll get there. We appreciate your support over the years–without you guys we wouldn’t be here!–and of course we value your feedback. Let us know what you think, and feel free to share your ideas for how to improve the site in future iterations. We’ll listen. Game on, GameFront article page – click to enlarge! | Sony’s Dec. 12 PS3 Reveal Could be Uncharted 3 Posted: 22 Nov 2010 08:52 AM PST Sony has sent out some invitations to an exclusive PlayStation 3 reveal that will be taking place the day after the Spike Video Game Awards (December 12). There’s no word on what will be revealed at this event, but Kotaku is reporting that a source has told them exactly what it will be. Uncharted 3. This wouldn’t be a huge surprise, as we’ve all heard that the game is in the works. The first we heard of it was earlier this year when Nolan North hinted that production would begin this year in an interview with GamePro. Also, you might recall that Uncharted 2 was first revealed at the VGAs in 2008. Still, it could be just about anything, but an Uncharted 3 reveal does make the most sense. I guess we’ll find out in three weeks or so. |
