Apple Goes Live With iOS 4.2

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 01:33 PM PST

Apple has now released iOS 4.2 to owners of iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. The new update to iOS 4.2 brings AirPlay and, the previously pay-to-play feature, "Find My Phone" from MobileMe to all devices. The major changes are aimed towards the iPad, bringing multi-tasking and Game Center, as well as application folders, Safari search and an improved mail experience.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, says "iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season.". This new update aligns all iOS devices to the same version, and should help with a unified experience across the mobile product line.

Nokia C2-01 And X2-01 Entry Level Phones Announced

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 04:45 AM PST

Nokia have just announced two new entry level phones – the C2-01 and the X2-01. The Nokia C2-01 sports a 2-inch QVGA screen along with a 3.2MP camera, Bluetooth, microSD card slot, FM radio and a 3.5mm audio jack. The C2-01 will also be the cheapest 3G capable handset from the Finnish giant. Nokia C2_01

On the other hand, the Nokia X2-01 packs a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, full QWERTY keyboard, FM radio, VGA camera, microSD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. Sadly, the X2-01 only supports EDGE and not 3G. Both the phones will be running on Symbian S40 platform so multi-tasking is a strict no-no. The C2-01 will have Nokia Messaging pre-installed for all your IM and email needs while the X2-01 will come with Nokia’s Communities app pre-installed.

The Nokia C2-01 is expected to be available in Q1 of 2011 and should cost 70 euros including taxes. The X2-01 will hit the retail stores by the holiday season this year and will cost 80 euros after taxes.

Sony Ericsson X10 Gets Android 2.2 Unofficially

Posted: 22 Nov 2010 04:45 AM PST

X10_Android 2.2It was at the end of last month/beginning of this month that Sony Ericsson had started rolling out the Android 2.1 (Éclair) update for the Xperia X10. The update came at a point when most of the high-end phones are already running on Android 2.2 or are scheduled to get their Froyo love sometime this year. It is also unclear whether Sony Ericsson will officially update the X10 to Android 2.2 or not.

However, unofficially the X10 is hopefully weeks away from a clean Android 2.2 ROM. The folks over at XDA have somehow managed to bypass the X10's boot loader and are working on a clean, stock Android 2.2.1 based Custom ROM for the handset. Right now, the ROM is in pre-alpha testing and the developers will try to squish all the bugs found during the testing phase by the users.

As of now, video playback and camera along with few other stuff are not working. The best part about this ROM is that it will allow users to dual boot between Android 2.1 and the Custom ROM. Users who are interested in trying out this ROM can check out this thread on XDA.
