Acer Unveils New 4.8 Inch Android Smartphone

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 10:19 PM PST

Acer has announced a new Android smartphone which sports some really awesome hardware specifications. The new Android smartphone will sport a 4.8 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a droolworthy resolution of 1024 x 480 pixels. It will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and will presumably come with more than 512 MB RAM.

It will also have an 8 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash as well as a secondary 2 MP camera for video calling. It also packs in HSDPA 14.4 MBps connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP. It is a Dolby certified phone with HDMI support.

It is easily the best Android smartphone announced yet, in terms of both form and function. No pricing details were released for this “100% phone and 100% tablet”, but it will be launched in April 2011. It will most probably run Android 2.2 Froyo or Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Backup iOS 4.1 SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak or iOS 4.1 Restore

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 12:37 PM PST

If you are planning to jailbreak your iPhone or jailbreak your iPod Touch on the latest iOS 4.2 update, you might want to backup your SHSH blobs so that you can restore your iDevice in case something goes wrong or if you want to downgrade your iDevice.

Though a jailbreak for iOS 4.2 is available, it is untethered, so you will have to jailbreak your device when you restart it so backing up your iOS SHSH blobs might be beneficial in the future. Backing up the SHSH blobs is similar to the earlier guide for backing up iOS 4 SHSH blobs.

All you need to do is download Tiny Umbrella from here. Once you download the software just follow the instructions and back up your iOS 4.1. Though a jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is already  available it is always better to stay on the safer side. Tiny Umbrella is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The update is a one click process so it should be fairly easy.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with Redsn0w

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 11:48 AM PST

Yesterday, Apple released the highly anticipated iOS 4.2.1 for the iPod Touch, iPhone and the iPad. The iOS4.2 update is a minor one for the iPod Touch and the iPhone but it brings a bucket load of changes for the iPad. With the iOS 4.2.1 update, the iPad gets AirPlay, AirPrint, Game Center and Multi-tasking etcetera.

Today, the iPhone Dev Team has released an updated version of Redsn0w which is capable of jailbreaking users' iTouch device running on iOS 4.2. The only downside is that the jailbreak is a tethered one – which means that users need to jailbreak their iTouch device again when they restart it. However, for the iPhone 3GS (older boot rom), iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC) this jailbreak is an untethered one.

Here are the steps to jailbreak your iTouch device using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 –:

Step 1: First and foremost, users need to update their iTouch device to iOS 4.2.1 using iTunes 10.1. They also need to download Redsn0w from here. You can also directly download iOS 4.2.1 IPSW.

Step 2: After that, users need to fire up Redsn0w and point it to the iOS 4.2.1 IPSW file. Once the IPSW file has been successfully identified by Redsn0w, users need to click on the 'Next' button to proceed.

Step 3: Users then need to select the 'Install Cydia' option along with any other feature they would like to use.

Before proceeding with the next step, users need to make sure that their iTouch device is switched off and plugged in to the computer.

Step 4: Now, in the next step users need to hold the 'Power' button and whilst holding the power button, they need to hold the 'Home' button. After around 10 seconds, users need to release the 'Power' button whilst still pressing the 'Home' button.

Step 5: After this, Redsn0w will work its magic and will jailbreak your iTouch device running iOS4.2.1.

This step is only for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (newer boot rom), iPod Touch 4G, 3G, 2G and iPad owners.

Step 6: Since this Redsn0w jailbreak is a tethered one for the above said iTouch devices, users need to use the 'Just boot tethered right now' option in Redsn0w every time they restart their iTouch device.

That's it folks! You have now managed to successfully jailbreak your iTouch device running on iOS4.2.1.

Pictures Of Motorola Olympus Surface On The Internet

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 09:15 AM PST

Motorola_OlympusAndroid lovers have high expectations from the still unannounced Motorola Olympus. The Olympus is expected to be based on NVidia Tegra 2 and will be 'fully' loaded with all the latest technology. The handset is expected to be announced by Motorola sometime early next year.

Now, Engadget has got their hands on what is arguably the Olympus. At first glance, the Olympus looks like the Motorola Defy. However, on closer inspection it is clearly evident that the screen of the device is bigger than 3.7-inch (4-4.3-inch possibly). From the images, it is also clear that the handset will sport a front facing camera.

Android And Me suggest that the Olympus will pack an 8MP camera with 1080p recording and a mini-HDMI port. Earlier it was though that the Olympus will be a Verizon exclusive device but now it looks like the handset will come to multiple carriers with AT&T launching the phone first.
