Good Home Maintenance Helps When It’s Time to Sell, pt. 1

While you certainly should enjoy your Maryland real estate and do not want to spend everyday in your home thinking about preparing to sell, keeping your home in good shape is key for getting a good sales price. Maintenance keeps your home healthy while you live there and eases preparation when you want to sell your home fast.

You hear a lot of talk about people ‘going green’ these days, and that is great if you are talking about energy-efficient appliances or windows. You don’t want your house to be green if that includes unchecked plant life growing on or around your home.

A Washington Post article, “How to keep your house from looking old, neglected” quoted an expert who noted that an untrimmed tree can get in the way of drying out the roof. This, in turn, can foster the growth of lichens. If the roof of your house has been overrun
with lichens, there is little you can do because trying to remove them can be harmful for shingles. This is an example of why maintenance is so important–small issues that are neglected can lead to bigger problems, some of which are not easy to solve.

This same principal applies to ivy. Although some people like the way it looks, it can do a lot of damage a home’s structure. Getting rid of it once it has taken hold is not easy.
