LG Optimus One Sells 1 Million Units In 40 Days Posted: 16 Nov 2010 08:57 AM PST LG Android based handsets are not very popular. The plummeting sales and profits of the LG mobile division is a testimony to this fact. However, it looks like LG has met with some kind of success with the LG Optimus One. In a press release, LG just announced that they have managed to sell more than one million units of the Optimus One. Keeping in mind that the Optimus One still has not been launched globally, it sure is no easy task! The LG Optimus One is a low-end Android based phone. The handset has a 3.2-inch screen with HVGA (320×480) resolution. The phone is powered by a 600MHz processor and packs in 178MB of internal memory. The usual Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS, Compass, external memory card slot, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack are all present. According to me, one major plus point of the Optimus One is that it runs on Android 2.2. LG is now expecting the Optimus One to be its first handset to breach the ten million mark in terms of sale. It is codenamed the LG Star, and like the upcoming LG Optimus tablet, it will be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 platform. It will sport Android 2.2 Froyo, or even Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the time it launches. It will have a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It will come with an 8 MP camera and can record 1080p HD video. It is supposed to sport the vanilla Android OS with no custom UI embellishments. Dell Streak Android 2.2 Update Rolling Out Now! Posted: 16 Nov 2010 07:58 AM PST It was just a couple of days ago that we reported that Dell will be rolling out the Android 2.2 update for the Streak within this month. Now, Dell has officially released the Android 2.2 update for the Streak. The update comes in an OTA (Over-The-Air) form for the tablet-cum-phone crossover. The Froyo update for the Streak will be first rolled out to unlocked devices. Carrier branded Streaks will get their share of Froyo love in phase two of the rollout i.e. late December. The Android 2.2 update for the Streak will bring with it a new Stage UI along with Flash 10.1, Mobile hotspot, better memory management and performance improvements. Since the Froyo update will wipe clean the Streak from user's data, Dell as released a Dell Backup & Restore application on the Android Market. The application creates a backup of all the user data on the external memory of the device so that they can restore it later on. Sprint Puts Palm Pre On Notice, EOL Posted: 16 Nov 2010 07:03 AM PST The original Palm Pre, exclusive to Sprint, has been tagged as EOL (End of Life). The first device with WebOS, introduced as an effort to bring Palm back into the mobile business has been unavailable from the Sprint web store since early last week and is now being cleared out of distribution channels. Sprint had U.S exclusivity for the entire duration of 2009 and broke their sales record – Tim Donahue, VP of Business Marketing for Sprint said "We experienced our best one day of sales and single weekend sales for any phone we’ve launched in our history". That is quite an accomplishment for Palm (who were recently purchased by HP for $1.2B), as they only boast roughly 4.9% U.S marketshare.
